Abuja carnival

        Abuja the capital of Nigeria is located in the heart of Africa's most populous Black Country, and it futures as the world center and magnet for cultural, adventure, educational and leisure tourism in the magical lands of Nigeria and beyond. Abuja carnival was established in 2005 to showcase the rich culture and crystallization of the creative spirit and cultural diversity of the Nigerian people, the Carnival has also been established as a major international calendar event, and is unique in many ways. The carnival attracts 200,000 local and international participants consisting of contingents from the states, participating countries, visitors, volunteers, vendors, exhibitors, photographers, set/costume designers, artisans, students, security personnel, Para-medics, traffic officers, officials of supporting agencies and media people. It is also a “breathtaking photo-event which brings over 250 cultures and diverse forms of entertainment together in various events spanning for four days in Abuja, the Nigeria’s capital city”.

      The events at the carnival ranges from Cultural Parade which includes all cultural expressions of the people of Nigeria, Indigenous Circus show is made up of itinerant players who are mostly acrobats, comedians, fire-swallowers, jugglers, magicians, live animal handlers and jesters. Nigerian Cuisine which includes Eran Igbe Venison, Isi-ewu, Cow foot, Salted Meats, Fish, Pepper Soup,Ogi, Garri, Obe-Onigba, Obe Eja Dindin, Chin Chin, Puff Puff, Spicy Scrambled Egg, Waina, Akara, Fried Plantain, Kuli Kuli, Dodo Oni and many more delightful dishes to make your mouth and eyes water. Crafts exposition of Textiles; Leather craft; Carvings; Bronzes; Beads; Paintings; Plaited Baskets. Processional Route that starts from Ahmadu Bello Way and travels 7 kilometers away and climax at the  Eagle Square before the Honourable President and his guests.

  Other activities also include Durbar it is an established cultural event that is commonly found in northern states of Nigeria and is one of the world’s longest processions of horsemen, it also reveals the past glories of the Emirate before the influence of Western culture. The horses are decorated in rich costumes and their riders are usually adorned with swords, polished and glinting, rich traditional headwear and robes.

Boat Regatta it is a display of rich cultural heritage of the riverine people of Nigeria, there dance, gyrate are put to entertain and thrill their audience. The regatta is been Paraded on the streets, as well as lakes in Abuja.

There is also a Traditional Music and Dance that features Koroso Dance Music from Kano State; the famous talking drum music in Western States; the Atilogwu from the Eastern part of Nigeria; Jarawa from Plateau; Ekemini music of Akwa-Ibom State; Swange dance of the Tiv to mention but a few, all the traditional dances are performed in both traditional and contemporary manner and the music played will include many other forms of contemporary dance.

   Static Sound Systems is where the DJ's plays contemporary international music from Africa, US, the Caribbean and Europe. Strategically positioned around the Carnival Route, this encourages the cross cultural fertilization between local art, culture and the international music scene. Live Stages includes Nigeria's leading international bands and performers that are invited to perform at the Abuja Carnival.
      Finally, Abuja Carnival is the carnival of all carnivals in Nigeria as it integrates peoples of diverse culture and traditions for the betterment of the nation and for the promotion of harmony and peaceful co-existence in the lives of people as diverse as Nigeria.
